An Honest Discussion on Debt and Credit

I really gotta get this off my chest cause it's been eating away at me for a long time, especially seeing the Occupy Wall Street movement and how people have IMO misinterpreted what this financial situation (at least in America) has meant to them and how it has affected them.

There are too many people out here saying they're broke with $300 car notes. There are too many people out here saying they're broke buying their kids 360s and Macs. There are too many people out here saying they're broke calling me from their iPhone trying to explain what went wrong and why someone is after them. There are too many people out here saying they're broke revealing to me that their only source of income is disability or child support going into these rent to own places getting TV's and Living Rooms. There are too many people out here saying they're broke living in 400k houses with 40k yearly income. Be real.

I see this everyday at work. I have dealt with hundreds of people and I've maybe seen about 20 that literally were just up the creek. I don't like how the only message being given to people about the economy is how the corporate fat cat is greedy and excessive. I believe that is true, however, can we start telling people about the role they're playing in this? Maybe the reason you have no money in your pocket is you. This country tells people they deserve certain things and totally shirks away from the responsibility of telling them how hard they need to work to get them

I don't have a problem with Occupying Wall Street; but don't do it because you can't afford to lease a Charger working at Garden Ridge. I'm sick of it. Live within your means. I understand that alot of people out there are struggling and my heart goes out to them for real...but if you say you're struggling don't be standing next to me in the line at Target waiting for the iPad 3 to drop; you got the game all messed up. Having to eat a home on Friday night is not how we need to be defining a struggle. It's crazy if you really think about it: in terms of global household income 99% of the worlds population grosses less than 30k a year (7 billi people on earf right now; most are in total poverty)...so if you make that or above you actually have a share in 1% of the worlds total income.

And don't get me wrong, all this stuff in terms of big business and job shortages is sickening to me too. The economy is the reason why I'm even in a field like this and I don't make what I'm nearly worth. But if we're gonna come from a place of being fed up, lets come out for the right reasons. That's all I'm saying.

I have folks who complain all the time about how money is short and they not making enough for what they have to do. Meanwhile their kids got bags full of new outfits name brand, 10 stacks of Jordan boxes, Gucci bags laying everywhere, new furniture...

This was a good post. I wish I could say "Oh yeah I hate people like that" but I'll be 100% honest, a lot of the time I fall into the category as the people your talking about.

Like now for example, I'm jobless and about to head back into school, but my biggest money concern is how I'm going to come up with $60 to buy a new game haha.

I don't blame anyone else for my money problems though. I know I bring it on myself with the choices I make with my money. I'm irresponsible, I spend money before I even get it. It's defiantly something I have to work on.

But you won't see me trying to start an "Occupy Wal Mart" movement because of it.

I can't fuck with credit cards though if I'm somewhere and a motherfucker is asking me to sign up for a card I act as if they just asked me to smoke crack with them.

Yeah I actually don't own a credit card, I might never to be honest

But it is necessary to have good credit; never know when you'll have an emergency or need a loan or a car or a house somewhere down the road. I would recommend for you young bucks to get you a gas card or something through your bank with low interest. Just establish a credit history by putting a couple of dollars on something a month and paying it off to keep that credit rating stable. A credit score is basically a person's finances saying "I either pay my bills on time or I don't". It's pretty important, some good jobs review your credit before they hire you; make sure you have something on file.

I build mines in other ways. I got some student loans (which are GREAT to build credit), and a car loan I paid off. What I suggest to the young bucks...go to your bank, get a small loan and hold on to it. Slowly pay that joker back and don't spend it, some bank offer loans for the sole purpose of building credit.

It's all a game, it's just that so many people have no clue they're even on the board

So take out a loan and never spend the loan while paying it back?

That Nigga!

I say we all just take out mad loans and prepare for the ends of time

Edit: Pawka don't sit there on your high horse and act like these corporations haven't been raping and pillaging our citzens and others abroad. Don't act like these mafuckas weren't preying on unsuspecting people and doing shady shit with investors etc. Don't act like these banks weren't given a bailout only so they can put it back in their pockets.

I agree, and the reason why I don't go deeper into that is because the point has been beaten to death

But we have to talk about the other side of the game. We have to talk about the people who put their signature on these loans and didn't read one line; didn't bother to consult legal counsel for whatever it was in those documents they didn't understand. Let's talk about common sense. If somebody hands you a document that's 12 pages deep it's a good bet that it says more in it than "pay this much a month for 40 years"

Cats pulling up to half a million dollars homes working at the Cheesecake Factory and don't have no questions as to how this is possible? You have a 135 year mortgage, your next door neighbor is Emmit Smith, and you somehow think this is gonna work?

I mean, there are two sides to everything and a major issue for me in this country is how we always wanna put a band aid on the mistakes WE make. If I told you the Holiday Inn was grossly overcharging their guests you wouldn't sleep there would you? And if you did you wouldn't come back complaining when you got got would you?
